On 28 August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. stood in front of more than 250,000 people and delivered one of the most powerful speeches in history. What’s fascinating is that the words “I have a dream” weren’t even in his prepared speech. It was only after someone in the crowd shouted, “Tell them about the dream, Martin!” that he put his notes to one side and spoke his dream, and the world has never forgotten those words. That’s the power of a story. The 28th of August has also witnessed heartbreak throughout history, from Emmett Till to Chadwick Boseman, reminding us that history holds both pain and hope, and perhaps that’s why I chose to launch my company, I Have a Dream, on 28 August. I want that date to become, for us, a reminder that every one of us has a voice capable of bringing light into someone else’s darkness. Every one of us has a story that can help somebody else cope with whatever they’re going through in life.

This year, on 28 August, eight incredible speakers from our recent cohort #5 will take to the stage. You’ll hear honest stories of resilience, leadership, disability, parenting, addiction, business, branding, communication and hope. These are ordinary people who have lived extraordinary lives and found the courage to share what they’ve learned to inform, inspire and educate.
