Real conflicts are better than fake harmonies.
That’s what Leila Alinaghian, PhD, SFHEA our director at Cranfield School of Management University, said during my first week of the MBA.
It made me stop and think, especially with Big Brother starting again tonight.
2010 feels like a lifetime ago, but wow, what an experience it was going into the Big Brother house!
Since then, I’ve had so many messages from people reminding me that Big Brother is back.
It’s made me reflect on how much I learned during that time, lessons that I’m bringing into my MBA journey now.
Big Brother wasn’t just about the cameras or the tasks, it was about navigating different personalities, dealing with intense, timed challenges, and just like Leila said understanding that real conflicts are better than fake harmonies.
And believe me, I had my fair share of conflicts in that house!
A few tasks I remember vividly:
• We were part of a football team, and the pressure was on because we were playing against the Big Brother Germany house during the World Cup! I took a free kick, and I’m pretty sure my penalty secured the win for us (if I remember correctly).
• Another challenge had us dressed as superheroes, and we had to hold our superhero pose for as long as possible. My task? Hold a car above my head while in heels, wobbling, uncomfortable, but I did it!
• On the very first night, we were taken up into the sky on a crane to eat dinner, harnessed to a table with people I’d never even met before. My adrenaline was through the roof, and it was one of those moments where you just think, “What have I signed up for?”
What I learned from Big Brother is that dealing with personalities, handling pressure, and staying true to yourself are key skills.
This week has been a reminder of how far I’ve come, how much I’ve learned, and that sometimes, stretching yourself outside your comfort zone is exactly what you need to grow.
