All I need to feel good!
Self-awareness is a powerful tool. It’s the foundation upon which we build our understanding of what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.
For me, it’s the simple joys of sea, sand, and sun that rejuvenate my spirit. But this isn’t just about holidays or relaxation – it’s about knowing and communicating our needs in every aspect of life.
As someone who is autistic and a mum of two autistic children, I’ve learned that neurodiversity requires clear and explicit communication. It’s incredibly dangerous to assume or guess what someone else needs.
This principle holds true in our personal and professional lives.
We must look inwards to understand ourselves better and then express those needs clearly to others. This practice of self-awareness and communication is crucial because:
☀️Self-Awareness: By reflecting on what we need, we can avoid frustration and ensure our well-being. It’s about taking the time to understand our unique preferences and triggers.
☀️Communication: Once we understand our needs, it’s essential to communicate them effectively.
Whether it’s in a workplace setting or at home, clear communication helps others understand and support us better.
We can’t expect people to just know what we need. If our colleagues or friends are unable to meet us where we are, it might be time to rethink if the environment is right for us.
This doesn’t mean we blame others; instead, it means we take proactive steps to ensure our needs are met.
So, let’s take the responsibility to express our needs clearly and encourage others to do the same.
In doing so, we create a more understanding and supportive environment for everyone, especially those who are neurodiverse.
Remember, looking inwards and communicating effectively can transform our interactions and improve our overall quality of life.
