The Training Kicked in!
I happened to overhear the evening news tonight, A paraglider had been hit mid-air by a plane. ✈️
What stood out to me most was what the commentator said, he explained that her training was fantastic. Because the moment she realised what had happened, her training kicked in.
I thought, this is exactly what happens with
professional speakers. I remember speaking at an International Women’s Day event for NatWest Accelerator in front of around 500 people. The music introduced me. I walked onto the stage. I started delivering the keynote. Then I realised my slides weren’t working. Now, in nearly ten years of speaking, that had never happened to me before. But my speaker training kicked in immediately. I didn’t need notes and I didn’t have cue cards, I knew my story and my message. The reason speaker training is important is because eventually something will go wrong, a microphone will fail or the slides won’t load, someone will interrupt you or your mind will go blank. And those moments, your level of preparation will serve you. This is why I teach How to Become an Impact Speaker in 90 Days. Can I help someone craft a powerful message in a 90-minute session? Absolutely. But giving someone true speaker foundations, that takes training. So if you have an emergency, work with me for 90 minutes. But if you want to build the kind of speaker muscle that allows you to adapt no matter what happens when you step onto a stage, there are still spaces available in Season 5 of How to Become an Impact Speaker in 90 Days.
And I’d love to hear from you.
