The Surprising Truth About Coffee and Why Knowing Isn’t Always Changing…

Did you know there’s more to your coffee habit than just seeking a delightful pick-me-up?

In our brains, a chemical called adenosine is released, signalling that we’re tired.

And you won’t believe this, but coffee molecules are perfectly sized to block adenosine receptors in the brain.

That’s right – coffee literally keeps tiredness at bay by preventing the signal.

But if like me we block it for too long you can get the shakes or jittery when you’ve had too much!

Our bodies try to shut down, but we keep pushing through with our caffeine fix. For me I love a Dirty Chai with two shots of coffee!

Now, how many of you reach for a coffee when you feel that wave of tiredness?

Yep, I do too.

But understanding this, that my body is naturally signalling tiredness, makes me rethink my coffee passion.

It’s not just the drink; sometimes, it’s the whole experience, like the joy of interacting with the baristas at Starbucks or just going through the drive-thru ritual.

Speaking of Starbucks, my love for their coffee intertwined with my personal brand so much that I even collaborated with them for my podcast last year. It’s funny how we can tie ourselves to brands without owning a single share, isn’t it?

But here’s the message: Just because we know something doesn’t mean we change our habits.
Change happens when we intentionally decide to do something different and hold ourselves accountable.

For me, it’s about using this knowledge about coffee and adenosine thoughtfully.

Knowledge isn’t just power; it’s potential power. It becomes truly powerful only when we act on it.

So, I’m curious – when you feel tired, do you automatically reach for a coffee or something similar? And knowing what you do now, does it change your perspective on your caffeine habit?

Share your thoughts and let’s inspire each other to make conscious choices, not just habitual ones.
